I think the two most frightening things you can possibly contract are:
1) Necrotizing fasciitis (Flesh-eating Bacteria)
2) This (Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis)
They're both fast-moving, painful diseases with very low rates of survival unless caught at very early stages. One of them eats your muscles and flesh away, the other destroys your brain.
It must be horrible for the poor kids parents too.
Having said that though, I think the graphic is just hysterical.
